HamiltonScores.com Reports: There is good news for hockey fans in Hamilton and across southern Ontario who may be disappointed with the lastest wrinkle in Jim Balsillie’s court bid to bring the NHL’s Phoenix, Coyotes to Hamilton.

Mayor Fred Eisenberger and the “Bring the NHL to Hamilton” rally committee are reissuing an invitation to this Friday’s rally sponsored by the City of Hamilton, First Ontario Credit Union, Home Hardware, Labatt, and The Hamilton Spectator and other local sponsors. “Despite reports to the contrary, Mr. Balsillie’s dream to bring a seventh NHL to Canada, specifically Hamilton, is still alive,” said Mayor Eisenberger.

“The judge in the case simply did not have enough time to make a decision to meet the June 29th deadline. He has asked all parties involved to regroup, sort out their issues, and try to work things out through mediation,” Eisenberger adds.

Eisenberger and Councillor Terry Whitehead, who co-chair the rally committee with local hockey fan Michelle Febers, have invited the entire city to attend the “Bring the NHL to Hamilton Rally” on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 12:00pm on the Jackson Square Rooftop in downtown Hamilton.

“There is no doubt that hockey fans in Hamilton and across southern Ontario are now, more than ever, ready for another NHL team in Canada,” says Mayor Fred. “We will do everything we can to bring an NHL team to Hamilton and continue to support Jim Balsillie’s efforts to achieve that goal.”

Among the many special guests and entertainers, the rally will feature MC “Red Green” (actor/comedian Steve Smith), Hamilton’s own John Ellison singing the Grand Funk Railroad hit “Some Kinda Wonderful” and the band “GMO” singing their “Make It Seven” theme song.

The City is also offering complimentary bus rides downtown to anyone who brings a non-perishable food item to the rally to be distributed to Hamilton’s local food banks.

“We are ready for the one of the biggest lunch-time rallies ever,” Eisenberger said. “We would like to invite the people of Hamilton, our local businesses and community partners to participate, and together, let’s Make It Seven!”

To assist Mr. Balsillie in achieving his goal to bring the NHL to Hamilton, we can help keep up the momentum by signing up on www.makeitseven.ca and by participating in Make It Seven Day in Hamilton June 19th.

It is too bad they didn’t consider next Friday, June 26 for the rally when the entire school board is off for the summer and all of us parents could have brought our children to the rally. Don’t mean to put a damper on things but I believe that your turn out would have greatly improved!!! Many schools had their year end trip on June 19.

I do support the effort, however, just wished they had taken the time to plan better.

I’ve heard rumors of a 2nd rally to help support bringing an NHL team to Hamilton. Does anyone know any details as to whether or not that is going to happen???
